Nano described the property as situated “right on one of the most prospective mineral belts” that has historically produced giant porphyry and epithermal systems.

“I search very diligently for truly prospective areas,” Nano explained, emphasizing the unique combination of giant alteration systems, historic mineral movement, and strategic location on major trans-orogenic fault systems. He described this belt as having transitioned from a perceived non-prospective region to a proven epicenter for significant discoveries, citing nearby projects such as Filo del Sol and Josemaría.

Nano’s long history working in the Andes has provided him with the experience to identify the subtle signs of major deposits. “This property really stood out to me as having the chance to deliver a true discovery,” he stated.


How Did Major Companies Miss This Land Package?

The land package now held by Mogotes Metals has been previously explored by major companies, including Anglo American and Vale. Nano offered insight into why these companies missed the potential: “They didn’t miss the prospectivity—they tested it—but at that time, this area was a long way from any major deposits.”

The lack of nearby discoveries and less sophisticated exploration tools a decade ago hindered their efforts. Nano explained, “Exploration has changed drastically. New geophysical techniques, PXRF, and understanding of complex overprinting systems make it possible to identify covered deposits more effectively.”

Furthermore, advancements in underground mining techniques have made it feasible to explore deeper targets that were previously dismissed. Nano concluded, “They did a good job for their time, but we now have tools and knowledge they didn’t.”

Nano highlighted the geological connections between Mogotes’ property and the neighboring Filo del Sol project. “We’ve joined datasets from both properties to demonstrate continuity of a giant, 10-12 km long copper soil anomaly,” he stated. “We can demonstratively show we’re part of the same district, though not necessarily the same mineral deposit,” Nano clarified. The continuity of these systems underscores the district’s enormous potential, bolstered by world-class discoveries along the belt.

“It’s not just one target; we have a cluster of opportunities,” Nano emphasized. These targets offer the potential for discoveries ranging from large porphyry systems to gold-rich caps. “If we make just one significant discovery, the impact on our valuation will be enormous,” Nano noted, referencing the $3.5 billion valuation of a neighboring project compared to Mogotes’ current market cap of $30 million.

Nano was unequivocal about what constitutes a discovery: “The only one that makes sense is one with economic value.” In the Vicuna District, that means large-scale deposits with hundreds of millions of tons of mineralized rock containing significant copper, gold, and silver.

“The hurdle is lower for us because of the infrastructure being developed by neighboring projects like Josemaría,” Nano explained. Despite this, Mogotes’ team remains focused on world-class discoveries, understanding that scale and grade will ultimately define success.
