This course aims to teach you how to value stocks for free.
The course is taught by Aswath Damodaran, who is a Professor of Finance at the Stern School of Business at New York University, where he teaches corporate finance and equity valuation.
It’s simply available on YouTube and it requires no registration of any type. So, you really have no excuse not to take it.
The course starts by laying out the rationale for doing valuation as well as the issues of bias, complexity and uncertainty that sometimes work against you, and then goes on to teach you about the different types of valuation.
For example, the three most-known ways of valuing a stock are:
– Relative valuation. That’s when you use ratios.
– Absolute valuation. That’s when you use techniques like the DCF.
– Options valuation. That’s when you use alternative ways to value something.
The course aims to teach you how to do the first two very well, and understand the third.
Although you are probably a retail stock market investor, an interesting part of this course is that it also teaches you how to value private companies.
