Germany reached an agreement to keep Neckarwestheim 2, and Isar 2 nuclear reactors on stand-by, ready to jump into production if/when needed this winter.
The reactors were scheduled to shut down on December 31, 2022, but will now be idle until April 15, 2023, at most.
The two reactors will not keep operating beyond December 31, 2022. They will be idle, and will only be put into operation if the government sees it fit. If they remain idle, the German government will pay for that.
Germany’s other operating reactor, Emsland, is still scheduled to shut down on 31 December
