The Daily Upside is a free news-in-a-nutshell newsletter focused on the business and finance world, that gets sent to over 300,000 people every morning. Today, that newsletter’s first story was about uranium.
“Russian Uranium Dominance Hamstrings US Nuclear Plans“, the title said.
There was nothing in the story that uranium investors who follow this website or the ResourceTalks YouTube channel didn’t already know, as the newsletter talked about Russia’s dominance in the uranium market, the US’ plans for improving its position in the market, and a brief outlook on SMRs.
The newsletter also mentioned Centrus Energy.
“The US has tried in years past to break Russia’s chokehold on the HALEU supply, even awarding a contract to UK energy company Centrus in 2019 to start producing it. Centrus was supposed to begin making HALEU this year but it’s been delayed until 2023 by pandemic-inflicted supply chain woes forcing the US to dip into its shallow reserve pool.”
One Centrus exec told Reuters it’s a lose-lose situation. “Nobody wants to order 10 reactors without a fuel source, and nobody wants to invest in a fuel source without 10 reactors,” he said.
