Visible Gold in New Holes, But Can the Assays Confirm Scale?

Dreadnought Resources’ flagship asset is the Star of Mangaroon, a small high-grade gold deposit in the Gascoyne that Black Cat Syndicate would mine, haul and process at its Paulsens mill. Metzke’s Find at the Illaara project is lined up as a second potential small cash source. The bigger goal is using that cash to fund exploration for a multi-million-ounce discovery at Mangaroon and Illaara. The company also holds rare earths and niobium at Yin and Gifford Creek, and a nickel-copper project at the Money Intrusion that Teck is earning into. In this interview, I asked about the share structure, the Black Cat relationship, why Star is late, the cash position, the exploration pipeline and the main risks.

TL;DR

Star of Mangaroon is late, and CEO Dean admitted they overpromised. He blamed state approvals that took about 250 days instead of the expected 90. The only one left, he said, is a road user agreement with the Shire of Upper Gascoyne, which he wants signed by October or November. After that, Black Cat makes the call on mining, he believes. Hauling is targeted for March or April 2027, and Star should be finished by end of 2027. Metzke’s Find is about 12 to 14 months behind Star. Dean said the cash funds aggressive exploration through end of 2027 without a raise. He was clear that Star isn’t a company maker; the real bet is first drilling at Mangaroon targets in April or May 2027.

What have they done for shareholders lately?

They told me all approvals for Star are in except the road agreement. The shire has already agreed on the haul route and is drafting what should be a two to three page document. Star has been drilled out to 10 m by 10 m. The planned open pit grade is 8.3 g/t, compared with the roughly 35 g/t the old-timers got by hand-picking ore. There are no legacy liabilities. At Metzke’s they finished RC and diamond drilling, and some visible gold was noted in the core. Insiders own about 10% and have put in roughly A$7.8M at an average of about 2.5 cents, so they’re underwater like everyone else. Nobody inside holds a royalty. Change of control is six months’ pay, and this year’s performance rights are tied to first gold at Star and a 4.5 cent share price. On the Black Cat conflict, since Paul Chapman chairs both companies, Dean said Chapman stays out of Black Cat decisions at Dreadnought. Dean and director Philip Crutchfield make those calls instead.

How much money do they have and what are they spending it on?

The last quarterly showed about A$15M, and Dean expects about A$11.5M to A$12M in the next one. The last raise was October 2025: just under A$19M at 3.5 cents. Over the company’s life they’ve raised about A$80M to A$90M, with A$60M to A$70M spent in the ground, A$9M on acquisitions, and G&A at about 10% to 15%. Black Cat funds Star’s development, up to A$10M. Metzke’s would follow the same model, with a mill partner funding capex and Dreadnought spending only about A$50K to A$100K on approvals, plus maybe A$0.5M to A$1M on extra diamond drilling. First-pass RC programs cost about A$150K to A$300K per target, and marketing runs about A$150K to A$200K a year. There are about 5.7B shares on issue, about 18.6M options and 79M performance rights, and the market cap is about A$57M at roughly 1 cent.

Upcoming catalysts

On the technical side, Metzke’s diamond assays are due in November and feed a resource update that adds underground panels. Illaara aircore results are coming, with RC drilling starting in November. At Mangaroon, rock chips, heritage surveys and tungsten metallurgy should lead to first drilling in April or May 2027 at Minga Bar (including Cullen’s Find), High Range North and possibly Bordah. On the operational side, the Star road user agreement is targeted for October or November, followed by Black Cat’s mining decision and hauling in March or April 2027. Metzke’s approvals are to be submitted by end of 2026. On the corporate side, Teck may run geophysics on the Money Intrusion late this year or early next, and Wyloo’s sale of its stake in the neighbouring Yangibana project could affect the value of the rare earths. No timing was given for the Yangibana sale.

Risks

The main near-term risk is the timeline slipping again. Dean called the delay “a failure” for him personally, and Black Cat controls the final mining decision. Mill problems elsewhere, like the recent one at Wiluna Mining, show processing can fall through. The haul is about 330 km, with 150 to 160 km unsealed, and February is cyclone season. Beyond Star, this is a discovery story, and Dean acknowledged the large soil anomalies could turn out to be widespread low-grade gold. Some Mangaroon gold is also too nuggety to show up reliably in drill assays. Teck’s work has been slowed by the Anglo merger. With nearly 6B shares and a mostly retail register, any future raise happens at today’s low price.
